ENG1000 Design & Innovation is a 1st year subject open to all of the 1500 1st year students across all the different Engineering disciplines. 14 groups chose to undertake the Mining projects. There were 2 types of projects:1. Surface Mining Project -- the objective was to move as much muck from the muck pile to the dumping zone. -- 4 teams undertook this project 2. Off Earth Mining (space mining) -- the prototypes have to drill into an asteroid suspended above the ground. -- 9 teams undertook this project. Projects were judged for build quality, productivity, innovation, stability and design specs. A winner was chosen for each of the 2 projects.
